Recently I was surfing the internet when I came across a Cosmopolitan.com artilce that peaked some interest. I saw the article mentioned GMO’s and when i read it thoroughly I found that it was quite informative. It was surprising to find an article that supports a research question hidden on a website under hair and makeup tips. For those struggling to find sources for your paper, keep your eyes peeled, you can find them in oddest places. The article titled The Stress-Free Guide to Healthy Eating by Leslie Goldman explores GMOs and what GMO even means. Half of consumers in the U.S. express concerns of GMOs, but they don’t exactly realize what GMO’s are.
The federal government hasn’t mandated GMOs to be proven safe, but there is no evidence that they cause significant harm to our bodies either. Even though there is no explicit warning about GMOs, eating organically is on the rise. But are millennials just eating organically because it's a trend, or because they actually care about avoiding products containing GMO’s? Americans spent $39.1 Billion on organic products in 2014, so obviously their popularity is on the rise.
Unlike the “natural” label that is often slapped on products, organic products are grown without conventional pesticides and organic meat means the animals are fed organic feed and aren't given hormones or antibiotics. Limiting the use of these drugs on animals is a great idea because the germs causing the illnesses in the animal become immune to the drugs, resulting in an invincible germ. Eating organically or GMO obviously has positives, but are enough people willing to make the change from traditional products to organic ones?
