Never knew food was so complicated

Reading the article, Bad Food? Tax it, and Subsidize Vegetables by Mark Bittman really gave me a different topic to consider about food politics. What I got out of the article was to tax all junk food that could probably make us not want to buy it as much and consider other options. Processed food companies' whole purpose of making their products cheap is so more people could buy it so if this tax is placed the outcome wouldn't be as good. I see how this idea could be both good and bad, many of us do buy unhealthy food because of its convenient cost and it's available almost everywhere we go. I have to say if we had the same availability with healthy food would our decision even change to go with the more unhealthy snack?
Having a tax on unhealthy snacks sort of seems unfair as if we were getting pushed to get the healthy snack but is it really anyones business what I put into my mouth. We have the freedom to make mistakes even with what we eat. States that have already placed a tax on these processed foods have only put this into little effect with a even smaller tax on those unhealthy products. Yes, our numbers of obese and diabetics has numerously increased but what happens to those people who could only afford the cheap processed food? Would healthy foods now lower their price so more people could afford it? If healthy foods prices stay the same then nobody is going to buy it because now both of these choices are out of anyone's price range.

I hope that this could possibly work but ultimately everyone decides what they are going to eat or not and what they'll pay to get it.
